RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
For students for whom English is an additional language or dialect. For students who come from non English speaking backgrounds or teacher recommendation.

COURSE CONTENT:
In this course students develop their ability to express themselves effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Students read, view and listen to short texts and discuss issues of interest. They undertake research and interview members of the wider community.
Areas of study include: Text Study, Investigative Study and Communication Study

ASSESSMENT:
Assessment at Stage 1 is school-based, with central moderation. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types: Text Production and Language Application.
